Elliot Schneider Jan 16, 2021 6:42 PM (in response to Eleanor Pesce)2 people found this helpfulMs. Pesce,
Here is some information to use when requesting his records. Might also want to try the following from New Jersey State Archives. Additionally, their is a link for the New Jersey Department of Military and Veterans.
https://www.state.nj.us/state/archives/catsedefen9.html
https://www.nj.gov/military/veterans/services/request-military-records/
Request Procedures
To request military records, please fill out a Standard Form 180 (SF-180). Certain identifying information is necessary to determine the location of a Service member’s record of military service. Please try to answer each item on the SF-180 to the best of your ability.
If you do not have and/or cannot obtain the information for an item, please mark it as “NA”, meaning the information is “not available”. Include as much of the requested information as possible. Incomplete information may delay the Department’s response time.
You must digitally or manually sign the SF-180. Refer to our digital signing instructions.
A completed SF-180 - in PDF format only - may be emailed to the Department’s Office of Records and Archives at MilRecords@dmava.nj.gov.
You may also fax it to the Office of Records and Archives at 609-530-7193 or mail it to the following address:

Dear Ms. Pesce,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We suggest that you request a copy of his Official Military Personnel File (OMPF). OMPFs and individual medical reports for officers of the U.S. Army who were separated from the service after June 1917 and prior to 1959 are in the custody of NARA's National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. In many cases where Army and Army Air Corps personnel records were destroyed in the 1973 fire, proof of service can be provided from other records such as morning reports, payrolls, and military orders, and a certificate of military service will be issued. Please complete a GSA Standard Form 180 and mail it to NARA's National Personnel Records Center, (Military Personnel Records), 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO 63138-1002. If there is any information requested by the form that you do not know, you may omit it or provide estimates (such as for dates), but the more information you provide, the easier it will be to locate the correct file if it survived the fire. For more information see Official Military Personnel Files (OMPF), Archival Records Requests.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NPRC is closed except for emergencies. Currently, NPRC will continue servicing requests ONLY associated with medical treatments, burials, and homeless veterans seeking admittance to a homeless shelter. If your request is urgent, please see Emergency Requests and Deadlines. Please refrain from submitting non-emergency requests such as replacement medals, administrative corrections, or records research until NPRC returns to pre-COVID staffing levels. Please check archives.gov/veterans for updates to the NPRC operating hours and status. We apologize for any inconvenience. We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
