The American Folklife Center has announced the launch of the John A. Lomax and Alan Lomax Papers online collection (AFC1933/001). Comprising some 4,900 items, including letters, telegrams, reports, notes, and memoranda, the collection provides a remarkably clear picture of the Lomaxes’ documentary activities during their affiliation with the Library of Congress. In September 1933, John and Alan became stewards of a nascent Archive of American Folk-Song (now part of the American Folklife Center). The Lomax family’s tenure lasted until Alan separated from the Library of Congress in October 1942.
