2 people found this helpfulHi Theo,
A couple of years ago the New Mexico State History Museum did on exhibit entitled Voices of the Counter Culture in the Southwest. They have turned the exhibit into a virtual exhibit that you can view:
Voices of the Counter Culture in the Southwest virtural exhibit
There is also a video of a conversation with the curators that you can view:
Conversations with the Curators
These may be good jumping off points to understanding something about the counter culture movement in this part of the United States. If you want to pursue anything people or subjects further through archival collections I suggest searching in the Rocky Mountain Online Archive. After you identify collections you think are of interest to your project, you can contact the institutions directly.
Good luck and let me know if you have any questions.

1 person found this helpfulDear Théo,
If you haven't already, you can also begin a search of the Library of Congress Digital Collections, no reader account is necessary, at: https://www.loc.gov/collections/ The collections are generally not free-text searchable, but there are finding aids and other resource tools available to help you navigate each collection. You might also wish to consult the Library of Congress online public access catalog (OPAC) to find titles of books or collections that are relevant to your topic. To search the OPAC, go to http://catalog.loc.gov/. Use either the "LC Catalog Quick Search" or select "Advanced Search" under "Search Options." A detailed help guide is also available for all types of searches. The Help link is found at the bottom of each search page marked "Search/Browse Help".
Additionally, you might find relevant material in any of our many resource guides, finding aids database, or online exhibits, to help you get started.
Please note, all Library of Congress research centers are closed to the public until further notice, to reduce the risk of transmitting COVID-19 coronavirus. You can follow updates to the Library's status at: https://www.loc.gov/about/pandemic-information/If you have more specific questions about particular collections at the Library of Congress, you can always reach out to staff through the Library's Ask A Librarian service, as well.
Sincerely,
