Seeking deck logs of USS Nevada

    fredbobby Newbie

Hello, I was wondering whether anyone has access to the logbooks for the USS Nevada and could look up their records for the date 6/18/1945. I have a piece of paper in my grandfather's military records that reads as follows:

      [Header]
      U.S.S. Nevada

      c/o Fleet Post Office

      San Francisco, Calif.

SERVED ON BOARD USS NEVADA DURING BOMBARDMENT OF EMIDJ IS., JALUIT ATOLL, MARSHALL ISLANDS, 6/18/45. S.K. MACLEAN, COMMANDER, USN.

      [Stamped]

      CROSSED 180th MERIDIAN

I have a statement of travel performed that confirms that my grandfather was on board USS Nevada on that date, but I haven't been able to otherwise confirm this bombardment and other sources seem to contradict that the ship was there or that a bombardment occurred then. This document was in a folder that held military documents that were passed down to me from my grandfather, but I don't know whether it's part of his official file. Thank you in advance.
