Re: Seeking records of slave purchases in Georgia
Cara JensenDec 31, 2020 10:50 AM (in response to Issac Neal)
Dear Mr. Neal,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
As records of enslaved people were often listed as property or estate transactions, we suggest that you search Georgia Probate Records, 1742-1990, and request a search from the Georgia Archives or the Talbot and Harris County Clerk of Court. We also suggest that you search the Georgia Slave Bills of Sale for the records that you seek.
In addition, the FamilySearch research wiki on African American Resources for Georgia as well as the document Federal Records that Help Identify Former Slaves and Slave Owners may be useful.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
