Did my mother have a pilot's license?

When I was a teenager, 50 years ago, my aunt told me that my mother was the first woman to obtain a pilot's license in Indiana. I reported this to my brother when I visited him recently. He said that he did not know about that, but that he did know that our mother earned her pilot's license on her 16th birthday. There was also a story about my mother's uncle being a crop duster. What is known is that my mother's father served in the U.S. Air Service (158th Aero Corps) during World War I. My question is, is there any truth to these stories? My mother was born Martha Naomi Ledbetter on Jan. 26,1924 to Martha Pearl Tranbarger and Lloyd Ledbetter in Lapel, Madison County, Indiana. Her father died in 1925 and her mother remarried in 1927. On her 16th birthday, my mother lived in Anderson, Madison County, Indiana. Her actual address is listed in the city directories of the time under her step father's name: Charles Brundage. Her uncle's name was Sherman Lowell Ledbetter. Thank you.
