The Idaho National Library (INL) is currently managed by Battelle Energy Alliance; if Battelle was managing the INL during the time period you are researching, you may be able to locate some pertinent information in series like Budget and Correspondence Files Relating to Research, 2/7/1958-1971 from the Records of the Office of the Secretary of Defense (Record Group 330), which contains records related to research projects sponsored by the Advanced Research Projects Agency (ARPA) and conducted by various research institutions, including Battelle. We also located 18 series created by the Department of Defense's Research and Development Board in various record groups during the 1940s and 1950s that could potentially include some helpful information. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT2, RDSC, and RDSS. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
