    Seeking explanation of NARA's organization

    Peter Woodruff Newbie

Can you explain the relationship between NARA and NPRC/National Archives?  I thought they were the same entity, but correspondence using them confuses people by using acronyms and not describing how these are different.

          Dear Mr. Woodruff,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) is part of the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA). Please see NARA’s Organizational Chart. NPRC is part of Agency Services (A) and it’s office code (in house) is AFN but we all refer to it as NPRC. The archival units are part of Research Services (R) and Legislative Archives, Presidential Libraries & Museum Services (L).

          We hope this is helpful.
