Dear Ms. Mathiason,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) is the depository of the permanently valuable non-current records of the Federal Government. If the house is of historical significance, we suggest that you search the National Register of Historic Places for a listing. We also suggest that you contact the Recorder of Deeds for the county in which the house is located to inquire about any plans that may have been filed for the house. In addition, a search for the house in Chronicling America: Historic American Newspapers may also be useful.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
