Re: Seeking rejected pension file for John S White
Julie Terstriep Nov 15, 2020 5:30 PM (in response to Elliot Schneider)Certainly!
John Sheets White, b. 10 Sep 1831, Augusta County, VA
d 15 Mar 1907, Bernadotte, Fulton county, IL
spouse was Eliza Jane Hulvey who died 1885.
He supposedly served with an Ohio unit when they moved from Virginia. His wife and 5 children left to go to meet family in Ohio and the four oldest got diptheria and died. Eliza also got diptheria but survived with the youngest child.
After the war, they had 9 more children! My great grandmother was the youngest child who survived. She became the oldest of 10.

Dear Ms. Terstriep,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
To request a search and order copies of military pension application files (to include rejected pension applications) based on Federal (not Confederate) service during the Civil War, please complete a NATF Form 85 to the best of your knowledge and mail it to the address on the form. You may attach copies of the pension index card Ms. Brooks located for you as well as any documents you already have concerning this matter. Please do not enclose original copies of family papers as National Archives staff will be unable to return them to you.
Please note that the National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) has suspended reproduction and digitization services until further notice due to COVID-19. Orders will not be serviced until operations can resume safely. Once operations resume, document reproduction requests will be filled in the order in which they were received. We apologize for any inconvenience.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
