1 person found this helpfulDear Mr. Dressler,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We suggest that you request a copy of his Official Military Personnel File (OMPF). OMPFs and individual medical reports for enlisted men of the U.S. Army who were separated from the service after October 1912 and prior to 1958 are in the custody of NARA's National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. In many cases where personnel records were destroyed in the 1973 fire, proof of service can be provided from other records such as morning reports, payrolls, and military orders, and a certificate of military service will be issued. Please complete a GSA Standard Form 180 and mail it to NARA's National Personnel Records Center, (Military Personnel Records), 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO 63138-1002. For more information see Official Military Personnel Files (OMPF), Archival Records Requests.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NPRC was closed from March 23 through June 23, 2020. As of June 24, the NPRC entered into Phase One of a gradual reopening process. On October 5, NPRC entered Phase Two. The center currently is only servicing emergency requests associated with medical treatments, burials, homeless veterans, VA Home loan guarantees, and employment opportunities. If this is urgent, please see Emergency Requests and Deadlines. We apologize for any inconvenience.
The National Archives and Records Administration (NARA) does not provide services to locate individuals. The records in the custody of NARA were typically transferred from other Federal agencies at least 20-30 years after they were created and used. Therefore, NARA records are not usually helpful in providing current information about individuals. Please review NARA’s Locating Veterans and Service Members web pages for some ideas.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!

Grace Yuhasz Nov 4, 2020 7:39 PM (in response to Elliot Schneider)To add to what Elliot Schneider posted:
The following are from Ancestry.com. You could download some of the documents there as they would be more legible than the included screenshots. (You would need a paid subscription, utilize the free trial period, or some libraries have an edition that can be accessed with a library card.)
Pennsylvania, World War II Veteran Compensation Application Files, 1950-1966.
On 28 Jan 1950, Frederick Schiller applied for Veteran’s Compensation from the state of Pennsylvania. The service number is the same as the one you gave us, although the birth date is different. All of the following records connect to this same person. Please check to make sure this is the Frederick Schiller you are looking for.
I am uncertain why there is a red “X” by the date and place of birth. Note the name of his wife Lisa as well as his mother Malvine are on the second page.
