1 person found this helpfulDear Mr. Folk,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the series Subject Files, 1942 - 1946 in the Records of the Office of the Provost Marshal General (Record Group 389) that includes 5 file units pertaining to Stalag 2B or IIB. One file unit in particular, American POWs in Germany, November 1, 1945, is a digitized report about the conditions of the POW Camps. Stalag 2B is described on pages 54-63 (images 56-65). The digitized images are available using the Catalog. We also located two series titied Records of Various German Prisoner-of-War Camps and Photographs of Allied Airmen Prisoners-of-War in the National Archives Collection of Foreign Records Seized (Record Group 242) that include records of Stalag IIB. Plus, we located the series Rosters, Lists, and Supplementary Lists of Americans Held as Prisoners of War (POWs) , 1944 - 1945 in the Records of Headquarters, European Theater of Operations, United States Army (World War II) (Record Group 498) that includes rosters and lists pertaining to American POWs in Stalag 2B. For access to the non-digitized records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT2. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
