J. Andrew Sep 21, 2020 2:43 PM (in response to Jodell Kline)Can you give us a little bit more to go on? Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines, Coast Guard? Officer or enlisted? What general time period did he serve? I'm assuming you are referring to the American military (though I've seen questions about British soldiers here before) but even that leaves the question open to everything from 1775 to last year.

Elliot Schneider Sep 21, 2020 5:23 PM (in response to Jodell Kline)Jodell,
Probably either 96th Division, 104th Division, 70th Division, and 91st Division all trained at Camp Adair. I know this because my Grandfather was part of the 96th Division 382nd Infantry Regiment that trained their before heading to California then on to Hawaii.
Also here is something I have kept to reference please copy and paste into your web browser.

Dear Mr. Kline,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
In regards to your question about the dates of service, we understand from your reply to Mr. Schneider that the information he shared from the U.S., Department of Veterans Affairs BIRLS Death File, 1850-2010 answers that.
Should you be interested in researching him further, we suggest that you request a copy of his Official Military Personnel File (OMPF). OMPFs and individual medical reports for enlisted men of the U.S. Army who were separated from the service after October 1912 and prior to 1958 are in the custody of NARA's National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. In many cases where personnel records were destroyed in the 1973 fire, proof of service can be provided from other records such as morning reports, payrolls, and military orders, and a certificate of military service will be issued. Please complete a GSA Standard Form 180 and mail it to NARA's National Personnel Records Center, (Military Personnel Records), 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO 63138-1002. Veterans and their next of kin also may use eVetRecs to request records. See eVetRecs Help for instructions. For more information see Official Military Personnel Files (OMPF), Archival Records Requests.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the NPRC was closed from March 23 through June 23, 2020. As of June 24, the NPRC entered into Phase One of a gradual reopening process. The center is currently only servicing emergency requests associated with medical treatments, burials, homeless veterans, VA Home loan guarantees, and employment opportunities. If this is urgent, please see Emergency Requests and Deadlines. We apologize for any inconvenience.
We also located a number of other records relating to him on Ancestry, such as birth and marriage information. Many of the records relating to him available on Ancestry have been collected together with in an entry for Rueben Carl Hoffman on the user created Myhrer Family Tree. Accessing this information on Ancestry may require a paid subscription. Some libraries provide free access to their patrons.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
