Does resettlement equal going to a reservation?

    Beth Welsh Newbie

Is a "resettlement area" a reservation? As in the "Two Strike Resettlement" of https://catalog.archives.gov/id/12079912  Thanks all,

          Dear Ms. Welsh,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

The Department of the Interior used the Resettlement Administration to not only direct improvement projects on American Indian land, such as improved grazing and water projects, but also to buy pieces of reservation lands that had been sold to Euro-Americans and returning that property back to the tribal trusts in order to piece the reservations back together.  The “Two Strike Resettlement” may be part of this directive.

For an overview of the U.S. Indian policy and Indian Reservation land, we suggest that you review the Indian Land Tenure Foundation’s website.

We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
