Seeking Navy deck logs of USS Caliente

    Ed Glenn Newbie

Greetings, I understand that the deck logs for the USS Caliente for March of 1973 are scanned and being checked for security and privacy. Is it possible to expedite the required processing and make the logs available relatively soon? Thanks for your consideration.

          Dear Mr. Glenn,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

Because the post-1970 deck logs contain Personal Identifiable Information (PII) in the form of Social Security Numbers, and the National Archives has to do a page-by-by redaction of the SSNs in order to make the deck logs available on the National Archives Catalog.  This is slow, detailed work and we ask for your patience.

If this information is needed for a claim with the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA), the VA also has digital copies of these deck logs that they should be able to access through their internal systems.  Please contact your nearest VA office.

We hope this information is helpful.
