I wanted to let everyone know that I found an interesting source for some of my late father's WW2 history. I signed up for a couple of online library cards in the area where I live. One is the Midwest Genealogy Center in Independence, Missouri. They have all sorts of free online databases. One database I found extremely helpful is newspapers.com (library edition). My father grew up in a small town and there were actually quite a few items about my father and the other young men in the neighboring towns relating to their WW2 service, when they were called up, where they were stationed, and when they contacted their families after the war to let them know that they were on their way home. This library also has Fold3, Find my Past, and several other databases. Good luck!
