Re: Seeking meaning of "No S/R" on WWI troopship list
joan stachnik Sep 4, 2020 10:46 AM (in response to Judy World)Hi Judy, would Service Record make sense for the abbreviation? I found the abbreviation S/R referenced as that in another document. Hope this is of some help. joan

Judy World Sep 4, 2020 11:10 AM (in response to joan stachnik)That is a reasonable possibility, It is still a mystery as there were so many with that notation. ie: Ship, USSTiger, arriving Hoboken, NJ on July 29,1919. Page # 414. Ahh, I knew this would not be easy. Thank you very much for your prompt reply

Re: Seeking meaning of "No S/R" on WWI troopship list
joan stachnik Sep 4, 2020 11:27 AM (in response to Judy World)Judy, Is there any other information on the ship manifest for soldiers who do not have the "no S/R" by their names? I ask because I found a WWII name list for an infantry unit where, in place of the ASR (essentially service point score for demobilization), the abbreviation "no S/R" was used. Presumably because their service records were not immediately available (http://www.coulthart.com/134/r-45-7-4-g.pdf )? Just a guess. Hope this makes some sense. joan

Re: Seeking meaning of "No S/R" on WWI troopship list
Judy World Sep 4, 2020 4:44 PM (in response to joan stachnik)Did not see anything like that, but did see: "Original S/R missing". I am looking at the 11th MG Battalion, and it is loaded with this notation.
It is so wonderful that we have access to this information. It helps us realize the magnitude of it all.

1 person found this helpfulDear Ms. World,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
One possibility is that S/R was referring to a soldier’s pocket-sized booklet in which assignments, promotions, etc., were recorded.
We suggest that you contact the U.S. Army Transportation Museum as they may be able to provide you with a definitive explanation of the phrase “No S/R” used on this troop ship passenger list.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
