Seeking passenger lists & arrivals of SS California to New York

Hi, I am trying to find my wife's great grandfather's arrival in the US, as well as who he traveled with, given he was only 5 years old.  His name was Pasquale Marino and he was born in Galdo, Italy in 1884.  I have his naturalization documents from 1913-1918 stating that he departed Naples on September 20, 1889 on the SS California and arrived at the Port of New York on October 16, 1889.  I found that the SS California (1872) was used for Mediterranean - New York service between on 1888-1904, but I can't find any record of it arriving in New York on/around October 16, 1889 nor a Pasquale Marino of his age or his relatives on a Passenger List in 1889.  Any/all help is greatly appreciated.
