Re: Seeking marriage license for Pietro Ratio & Emily Ferro
Susannah Brooks Aug 20, 2020 1:18 PM (in response to Stephanie Ratto)They could have been married anywhere. In 1947 Emily Ferro Ratto, born 1922 in CA, returns from Italy with Guissppina Ratto, age 5, an Italian citizen. Emily's husband and Guissppina's father is listed as Pietro Ratto in Walnut Creek, CA, which was the last US residence for Emily and Guissppina.
Since the daughter was born in Italy, it makes me wonder if the couple married in Italy.

Dear Ms. Ratto,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We suggest that you search the FamilySearch California, County Marriages, 1850-1952, the FamilySearch California Marriage Index, 1960-1985, and/or request a record search from the California Department of Public Health.
As the other poster suggested, they may have been married in Italy. Under Italian law, records of births, marriages, and deaths are maintained by the Registrar of Vital Statistics (Ufficio dello Stato Civile) in the city (comune or municipio) where the event occurred. There is no central, regional, or provincial office established which keeps such records. According to the passenger list linked in the previous post, the birthplace of their daughter, Guissppina Ratto, is listed as the city of Varese. If you are unable to locate a record in California, we suggest that you inquire about the marriage record of your in-laws in that location.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
