Re: Seeking grandfather's proof of citizenship
Tamie Dehler Aug 8, 2020 1:36 PM (in response to Carl Erkenbrecher)It basically means that James immigrated to the US as a minor child with his parents and his father became a naturalized citizen before James reached the age of 21. So James became a citizen at the same time his father did. If you are interested in finding out when and where he became a citizen you would have to look for his father's declaration of intent, petition for naturalization, etc. The underage children and wife will likely be named in the documents.

Re: Seeking grandfather's proof of citizenship
Susannah Brooks Aug 8, 2020 2:03 PM (in response to Carl Erkenbrecher)When registering for the draft one did not have to prove their citizenship. He stated that he was naturalized through his father becoming a citizen before James turned 21 years of age (age of majority at the time). His father, Abram Handler became a US citizen in 1904.

Re: Seeking grandfather's proof of citizenship
Susannah Brooks Aug 9, 2020 10:54 PM (in response to Carl Erkenbrecher)naturalization of Abram Handler (declaration of intention in 1902 precedes it by one page)
unlike naturalizations that took place starting a few years later this does not contain the names of his wife or children
