Thomas RichardsonAug 6, 2020 3:00 PM (in response to Alberto Galeotto)
Dear Mr. Galeotto,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We have searched the National Archives Catalog and located the series World War II Operations Reports, 1940-1948 in the Records of the Adjutant General’s Office, 1917-1985 (Record Group 407) that include records of the Allied Forces Headquarters and the Allied Military Commissions in Italy. While we were unable to locate any specific references to Allied missions in the Piedmont region, we locate 61 series in the Records of Mediterranean Theater of Operations, U.S. Army (Record Group 492) that pertain to military actions in Italy. For information on Piedmont region in the postwar period, we located the Subject Files Relating to Piedmont, 1945-1946 in the Records of Allied Operational and Occupational Headquarters, WWII (Record Group 331) that are part of the Allied Control Commission (ACC) for Italy. For access to these non-digitized records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of . Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from the RDT2. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.
The U.S. Army Center of Military History (CMH) has several publications pertaining to Italy during WWII such as the U.S. Army in World War II: Mediterranean Theater of Operations and the North Apennines. Additional publications are available using the Publications Catalog.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
