Re: Seeking passenger lists of SS Klipfontein in December 1941
Timothy McGoldrick Aug 1, 2020 3:13 PM (in response to Raymond Arechiga)1 person found this helpfulI found some information about the SS Klipfontein three manifests from 1941.
Mar-22, 1941 arriving in the Port of San Francisco, California
Jul-15, 1941 arriving in the Port of Honolulu, Hawaii
Jul-22, 1941 arriving in the Port of San Francisco, California
After that no information however if they were in route and they received information about the attack they were probably ordered to the nearest port west of Pearl Harbor which I think would be the Philippines and radio silence would be a must to prevent an attack on their ship. The ship was taken control of by the War Shipping Administration 23 Feb 1942. A link to that info and a picture of the ship is also found there.

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located a series titled Passenger Lists of Vessels Arriving at San Francisco, California, 5/1/1893 - 5/31/1953 (M1410) and Passenger Lists of Vessels Arriving at Honolulu, Hawaii, 2/13/1900 - 12/30/1953 (A3422) in the Records of the Immigration and Naturalization Service (Record Group 85) that may include passenger lists for the SS Klipfontein. For access to M1410 and A3422, please contact the National Archives at Washington, DC (RDT1) via email at archives1reference@nara.gov.

Raymond Arechiga Aug 26, 2020 12:20 AM (in response to Cara Jensen)1 person found this helpfulThank you,
I will try looking in those areas. Further information tells me the ship Singapore and Pearl Harbor happened causing a reroute by way of Auckland to Los Angeles to safeguard the blocks of rubber on board.
Thank you,
Raymond

Raymond Arechiga Sep 25, 2020 11:45 PM (in response to Cara Jensen)Thank you,
My uncle said that they were enroute to Java then Honolulu then San Francisco. However after Pearl Harbor the ship was rerouted to Auckland then to Los Angeles.
Is it the possible to find entered from the Los Angeles ports?
Thank you kindly,
Raymond

Re: Seeking passenger lists of SS Klipfontein in December 1941
Raymond Arechiga Sep 25, 2020 11:54 PM (in response to Alice Lane)Yes they are helpful, the dates would be pre December 7,1941 to later. The trip started in Mumbai, went through Singapore and while heading for Java, Honolulu and San Francisco Pearl Harbor happened causing a detour to Auckland then to Los Angeles.
My uncle was on the ship from Mumbai to LA.
Thank you kindly,
Raymond

Rys Miranda Oct 3, 2020 12:37 AM (in response to Raymond Arechiga)I haven't searched your particular ship, but try the Immigrant Ships Transcribers Guild (ISTG) website: https://immigrantships.net/index.html.
They have a good size database that's easily searchable.
Good luck!
