Seeking records showing Caribbean influence on American agriculture

    Evelyn Crish Newbie

I would like to know the Caribbean American influence on American agriculture.  Are there people of Caribbean American Heritage that influenced agriculture in the United States?

          Evelyn Crish,

Thank you for posting to History Hub! You may wish to explore resources available from the Hispanic Reading Room at the Library of Congress, including the Handbook of Latin American Studies. The staff of the National Agricultural Library may also be able to help you locate relevant sources.

All the best of luck on your research project!

            Dear Ms. Crish,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the National Archives Catalog and located 3 file units & 3 items using the search term “Hispanics” and located 9 series using the search term “Latin” in the Records of the Office of the Secretary of Agriculture (Record Group 16). We were unable to locate records using the search term “Caribbean.” For access to the file units and series, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov. For access to the items, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Motion Pictures (RDSM) via email at mopix@nara.gov.

We also located 6 series & 15 file units in the Records of the Farm Service Agency (Record Group 145) that pertain to the Caribbean & Agriculture. For access to these records, please contact RDT2.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT2 & RDSM. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.

We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
