My Grandfather, John Ignazio DiMaggio, was born in Messina, Sicily on February 5, 1888. I need help finding records in Messina. Thank You

Familysearch.org has civil birth records ,but you will need to know the name of the village in Messina where he was born. Also his first name was probably Giovanni, the Italian version of John.
