From some very quick research, David Turnham's (1803 Kentucky - 1884 Indiana) grandfather, Thomas Turnham, was born in Buckinghamshire England about 1721 and was sent to Virginia in 1739 on a prison ship. In order to determine if you are related you would have to trace your own ancestry back to at least the beginning of the 18th C. to see if your ancestors were in Buckinghamshire and then trace your own ancestry and that of Thomas Turnham back to see if there is a common ancestor.
Many thanks for answering so quickly. I have David Turnham's parents as Thomas T born 1749 in Virginia and Eve Liston. I also found the Thomas Turnham c 1721 born in Buckinghamshire transported on the ship Forward Galley in 1739 but could not connect him as the father of Thomas born 1749. I would very much appreciate that source.
I was born and bred in England myself and have traced my Turnhams back to 1558 to a Thomas T born then in Hoggeston, Bucks (I spent a lot of time in the Buckinghamshire Record Offices many years back.
I did try to connect Thomas T from 1721 to my Turnhams without any luck. But at that time I did not definitely know that he was related to David T friend of Abe Lincoln. By the way I live now in Washington DC but have never used the Archives for research.
Welcome to History Hub.
Have you contacted the Indiana Historical Society?
Is this your David that I found on findagrave.com..........
Thanks. Yes that is his gravestone! I haven't contacted the Indiana History Society but would like to know where the first volounteer who replied got the information that related David Turnham's father Thomas to his father Thomas who came in the prison ship from England. We could never find that connection. We had David friend of Abe Lincoln and his parents but nothing to say that the Thomas who came from England was David's grandfather.

Dear Mr. Turnham,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
Since Ms. Brooks mentioned Thomas Turnham was in Virginia before the Revolutionary War, we searched the National Archives Catalog and located the Indexes to Revolutionary War Compiled Military Service Records and the Compiled Service Records of Soldiers Who Served in the American Army During the Revolutionary War in the War Department Collection of Revolutionary War Records (Record Group 93) that may include a file for Thomas Turnham. We also located the Series: Case Files of Pension and Bounty-Land Warrant Applications Based on Revolutionary War Service, ca. 1800 - ca. 1912 in the Records of the Department of Veterans Affairs (Record Group 15) that includes a digitized file unit titled Revolutionary War Pension and Bounty Land Warrant Application File S 36831, Thomas Turnham, Continental Va. For access to the non-digitized records, please contact the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1) via email at email@example.com.
