    Seeking records of deceased orphans

    floyd counts Newbie

How do I get records of orphans who have died and why don't the courts release the records to family members upon request? I do not want to start a discussion, I just want answers.

          Dear Mr. Counts,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We suggest that you begin by reviewing the FamilySearch research wiki on United States Death Records.  Depending on the time period, death certificates may be filed at the state level and/or  recorded in the city where an individual died. Please contact that particular office of vital records. If it was prior to such information being officially recorded, then local records of churches, other religious organizations, or orphanages may have to be searched.

We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
