The Library of Congress has added a dozen new titles to the National Screening Room in honor of Juneteenth, including Symphony in Black (1935), Duke Ellington’s musical short featuring the screen debut of Billie Holiday; A City Decides (1956), an Academy Award-nominated documentary about the integration of the St. Louis school system; Negro Colleges in Wartime (1943), a government short about how HBCUs are training students and deploying resources for war industries; four episodes of One Tenth of a Nation (1953-1954), a newsreel celebrating the achievements of Black Americans in a variety of fields; and Whoever You Are (1946), a very frank film about the ills of racial and religious intolerance.
