Dear Mr. Smith,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located Search and Rescue Case Files, 1/1965 - 12/1982 (documenting 1/1947 - 12/1982) in the Records of the U.S. Coast Guard (Record Group 26) that may include records relating to the Coast Guard investigation of the sinking of the Bluebelle and the subsequent revelation of the alleged murders. For access to this series and other related records, please contact the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1) via email at Archives1reference@nara.gov.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT1. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.
You also may wish to file a FOIA request with the Federal Bureau of Investigation, as they have primary jurisdiction for investigating murder on the high seas. Also, if state or local law enforcement were involved in the investigation, there may be files at the State Archives of Florida.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
Thank you Jason. Very much appreciated. I will follow these next steps.
