Henry Rosenberg Jun 2, 2020 6:37 PM (in response to Barbara Mansfield)The 1850 census was the first one to list individuals in a household. If they were living together then it may be an indication that they were related. I do not remember if it lists relationships. If so, that would confirm it.

Such records are made and kept by State and local governments rather than the National Archives. For birth, death, marriage records or will information, we suggest that you contact the State Archives of North Carolina, the Historical Society of North Carolina, the Person County Historical Society, the Person County Vital Records, and the FamilySearch Research wiki for North Carolina.
