The father was David Powell, the mother Lucy, and their children James, George, Lewis, and Samuel. They were slaves at a plant in Boone County, KY, owned by John Norris. They ran away to Cass County MI on October 9, 1847. Norris captured them in '49 and was stopped by South Bend citizens on the ride back to KY. There was a court battle about if the Powells should be free or go with Norris, resulting in their freedom. After the 1860 census, the Powells disappeared. I would like any Canada census records or Change of Name deeds that might lead to their whereabouts. Thanks!
