1 person found this helpfulDear Mr. Noble,
Thank you for posting your request on the History Hub!
We suggest that you request a copy of his Official Military Personnel File (OMPF). OMPFs and individual medical reports for officers of the U.S. Army Air Force who were separated from the service after June 1917 and prior to 1958 are in the custody of NARA's National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. In many cases where personnel records were destroyed in the 1973 fire, proof of service can be provided from other records such as morning reports, payrolls, and military orders, and a certificate of military service will be issued. Please complete a GSA Standard Form 180 and mail it to NARA's National Personnel Records Center, (Military Personnel Records), 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO 63138-1002. You can also fax the form to 314-801-9195. Veterans and their next of kin can also use eVetRecs to request records. See eVetRecs Help for instructions. For more information see Official Military Personnel Files (OMPF), Archival Records Requests.
Due to the coronavirus public health emergency, the National Personnel Records Center is servicing only urgent requests related to homeless veterans, medical emergencies, and funerals which may be faxed to 314-801-0764. We thank you for your patience and look forward to resuming normal operations when the public health emergency has ended.
We hope this is helpful.

Re: Seeking military records of William Noble
Sam Noble May 8, 2020 6:38 AM (in response to Thomas Richardson)Thank you. I did that weeks ago. I am working on a surprise birthday gift for my husband that I need before June. Due to the virus restrictions it’s taking too long. I was getting desperate to find out, AT LEAST, his rank so I tried here. I appreciate your reply.
(PS: I’m female) Hee Hee :-)-

Dear Ms. Noble,
Thank you for posting your follow-up request on History Hub!.
You also may submit a Freedom of Information Act Request (FOIA) request to the National Personnel Records Center for basic military information that is releasable under FOIA guidelines. Please submit the same SF-180 to the NPRC, as mentioned in the previous post, and include “FOIA” under Section II, 2. Purpose, Explain here.
We hope this is helpful.

Re: Seeking military records of William Noble
Sam Noble May 11, 2020 10:01 AM (in response to Alice Lane)Yes, they all look correct. Some info is a little off on some of them, however, the headstone is correct. He married a Pegues and the marker in the photo is correct for the whole Pegues/Noble family members in Longview, TX.
Thank you very much. How do I locate his military record at this point?-
Re: Seeking military records of William Noble
Sam Noble May 11, 2020 11:38 AM (in response to Sam Noble)Ok. I saw that earlier. Something is not correct. He was in the Air Force and flew a P51 Mustang. I am needing to find out his rank and maybe where he was stationed. I don’t know where to look. Thank you

Re: Seeking military records of William Noble
Sam Noble May 13, 2020 6:43 PM (in response to Elliot Schneider)After going to the FOIA page, I realized that I have already submitted a SF-180 weeks ago. I’m in a time crunch to arrange a surprise gift for my husband (his father died when he was 1yr old) The reply to that form is taking too long. I really need his rank and where he was stationed pretty soon. Any ideas of other places I might find this info. The family dies not know anything.
Thanks

Re: Seeking military records of William Noble
Sam Noble May 29, 2020 8:31 PM (in response to Elliot Schneider)Either this is a different WD Noble, some or the information is incorrect. He never lived in Tyler, TX (he lived in the next town over) and he was not a chauffeur/taxi driver. He was an insurance agent. He was not in the reserves. He was born in Louisiana (I’ve been to the house he was born in) and he died in August.
Any other places I can look? I need his correct rank, at least, so I can order a surprise gift for my husbands birthday party on July 1.
He was a P-51 mustang pilot.
Thank you
