Re: Seeking parents of William Atwell
Brenda Jones Apr 30, 2020 12:57 PM (in response to Alice Lane)After looking through this file on Elizabeth Atwell, I find that the pension was actually for J. W. Atwell. Unfortunately, not my 3rd Great Grandfather. I also have all the records to be found on Fold3. Many thanks.

Re: Seeking parents of William Atwell
Brenda Jones Apr 30, 2020 12:54 PM (in response to Alice Lane)Supposedly, my 4th great grandfather is Edmond/Edmund Atwell and supposedly he was married to Sally Jones. Sally Jones was the daughter of Edmund Jones of North Carolina who was married to Rachel Alston. I can no proof of this relationship. Thank you for trying to solve this dilemma.

1 person found this helpfulDear Ms. Jones,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located a series titled Record Books of Executive, Legislative, and Judicial Offices of the Confederate Government in the War Department Collection of Confederate Records (Record Group 109) that contain Louisiana unit information. For access to these records, please contact the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1) via email at archives1reference@nara.gov.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDT1. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.
We also searched Carded Records Showing Military Service of Soldiers Who Fought in Confederate Organizations , 1903 - 1927 in the War Department Collection of Confederate Records (Record Group 109) that includes the digitized file unit Confederate Soldiers from the State of Louisiana - Atwell, William G - Fourth Regiment, European Brigade, Militia, A - L.
For his birth records (that may include his parent’s names), we suggest that you search the State Archives of North Carolina and/or use the suggestions listed in the FamilySearch wiki for North Carolina birth records.
For his death records, we suggest that you search the Louisiana State Archives and/or use the suggestions listed in the FamilySearch wiki for Louisiana Death Records.
We hope that this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
