Good morning, In order to complete my thesis research I would like to know where can I find American propaganda films during the Pacific War and, if possible, Japanese propaganda films. Thank you for your attention.

          Dear Mr. Rodriguez,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

We searched the National Archives Catalog and located Propaganda, Information, and Documentary Motion Pictures, ca. 1942 - 1945 in the Records of the Office of War Information (Record Group 208) that include 9 American films about the Pacific. For more information about these records as well as to inquire about other World War II-era films in NARA custody, please contact National Archives at College Park - Motion Pictures (RDSM) via email at mopix@nara.gov.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgement as well as a substantive response to your reference request from RDSM. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.

You also may wish to contact the Library of Congress’s Motion Picture, Broadcasting, and Recorded Sound Division and Japan’s National Diet Library.

We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
