1 person found this helpfulDear Ms. Hallo,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
For Air Force (including Army Air Corps), Army, and Navy personnel, NARA's National Personnel Records Center will verify the awards to which a veteran is entitled and forward the request with the verification to the appropriate service department for issuance of the medals.
For requesting medals and awards, please use eVetRecs on NARA’s website at https://www.archives.gov/veterans/evetrecs/ or complete a GSA Standard Form 180 and send it to NARA's Military Personnel Records, National Personnel Records Center, 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO 63138-1002. Provide as much information as possible in Section II under "other." Issuance of medals from the service branch is dependent upon their review and their backlog of medals requests.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. Also, the National Personnel Records Center is servicing only urgent requests related to homeless veterans, medical emergencies, and funerals which may be faxed to 314-801-0764. We thank you for your patience and look forward to resuming normal operations when the public health emergency has ended.
We hope this information is helpful.

Re: Seeking procedure for ordering military medals
Tamara Hallo Apr 24, 2020 9:17 PM (in response to Thomas Richardson)Thank you for answering. I already filled out the SF180 and received his DD214 and other papers. Do I fill it out again and just put in section II that I just want his medals? Can I request them on behalf of my client? Thank you

1 person found this helpfulDear Ms. Hallo,
Thank you for posting your follow-up request on History Hub!
You will need to submit a follow-up SF-180 and complete Section II requesting his service medals and awards. When requesting medals, there are specific rules concerning who is eligible to receive the awards. For the Army, the next-of-kin is defined as the surviving spouse, eldest child, father or mother, eldest sibling or eldest grandchild. If your client is the oldest grandchild, you must have their authorizing signature.
If you do not have the next-of-kin’s authorizing signature but do have a copy of the veteran's Official Military Personnel File (OMPF), you may be able to obtain the medals from a commercial source.
We hope this is helpful.

Local military surplus stores or online retailers will have some options on service awards and medals.
