Questions about Marine Corps Unit Citations

    David Butenschoen Newbie

A friend served with the 3rd Battalion, 11th Marine Regiment, 1st Marine Division in Vietnam from April 1st,1967 to April 25, 1968. He was honorably discharged on October 18, 1968. The 11th Marine Regiment site shows that the 11th received a Presidential Unit Citation for 1967-1968, a Meritorious Unit Commendation for 1968, and the Vietnam Gallantry Cross W/Palm for 1961-1969.  None of these awards appear on his DD-214. Also, would this unit be eligible for the Navy Combat Action Ribbon?  This was established in February of 1969 after he was discharged, so it wouldn't show on his DD-214.

My question is whether he is eligible for these awards with the dates that he served, and where can I find the general order which bestowed these awards to this organization?  I would like to have his records corrected to include both the unit awards and the Combat Action Ribbon.

Thank you in advance for your help.
