Dear Mr. Bartoo,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located the record series titled which is indexed by Indexes to the Carded Records of Soldiers Who Served in Volunteer Organizations During the Spanish-American War in the Records of the Adjutant General's Office, 1762 - 1917 (Record Group 94) and located Bartoo, Eddie E - State: Texas - Regiment: 2 Texas Infantry, Company M and Bartoo, Nelson E - State: United States - Regiment: 1 United States Volunteer Cavalry, Company A. These index cards have been digitized and can be viewed online through the Catalog.
These cards indicate that there should be a compiled military service record for these soldiers in the record series Carded Records Showing Military Service of Soldiers Who Fought in Volunteer Organizations During the Spanish-American War in Record Group 94. The Compiled military service record of Nelson E. Bartoo, documenting service in the 1st U. S. Volunteer Cavalry (Rough Riders) during the Spanish American War has already been digitized and is available online through the Catalog.
The service record for Eddie E. Bartoo is not available online. There may also be pension files available for these persons which are not yet available online. To order copies of these records, please fill out a NATF 86 for service records and a NATF 85 for pension records and mail them to the addresses listed on the forms. You can also place your order online using eservices.archives.gov. For more information, please see Requesting Copies of Older (pre-WWI) Military Service Records.
Please note that the National Archives and Records Administration has suspended reproduction and digitization services until further notice due to COVID-19. Orders will not be serviced until operations can resume safely. We apologize for any inconvenience. Once operations resume, document reproduction requests will be filled in the order in which they were received.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
