Re: Seeking microfilm of 776th Tank Destroyer Battalion
Thomas Montgomery Apr 28, 2020 7:30 PM (in response to Jo Shipley)Quite helpful indeed but missing a whole month of reports (December 1944) and the Reports end 28 Feb 1945. In March, the 776th helped breach the Siegfried Line and march into Germany, ending the war in Austria. I can't seem to find more papers. Any clues out there?

Re: Seeking microfilm of 776th Tank Destroyer Battalion
Jo Shipley Apr 29, 2020 11:04 AM (in response to Thomas Montgomery)1 person found this helpfulNARA at College Park should be the primary source. They may have the missing reports. Alternatives include the Eisenhower Library in Kansas which has records on the 776th TD Bn. Reference Box 1565: 776thTank Destroyer Battalion
NOTE:The materials in the collection are fragmentary and incomplete for all units.
The United States Army Heritage and Education Center has a book on the 776th TD Bn at Ridgeway Library:
An informal history of the 776th Tank Destroyer Battalion.
Publication year: 1945?]
Language: English
Call Number 302 -776TD 1945
Media class: Book
Publisher: [Austria? : Publisher not identified
Extent: 103 p. : ill. ; 22 cm.
Per USAHEC: Depending on the war or campaign of interest, the information we have on a specific unit varies greatly. The USAHEC is not specifically a repository for official unit records, rosters, or morning reports. Officially, these types of records are held by the National Archives and Records Administration.
Another alternative is to reference the After Action Reports for the Infantry Divisions and or Armor Divisions for which the 776th was attached.

1 person found this helpfulDear Mr. Montgomery,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
The microfilm you are seeking may be the Historical Data cards in the Records of the Adjutant General's Office, 1917-1981 (Record Group 407) but until the current crisis is over, we are not able to check the film for you.
