I am looking for the naturalization certificate for Johann Ludwig Geldmacher, a Hessian soldier that stayed in or around Winchester, VA. He probably took the oath soon after the Revolutionary War.
Dear Mr. Lacefield,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
Prior to 1790, there were no federal authorities involved in the naturalization. Naturalization was the responsibility of individual states. Please contact the state archives and the county and municipal courts for where he was living at the time. Virginia’s state archives is the Library of Virginia.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
