My grandfather was born in December 1858 on this voyage outside of Hong Kong harbor. A mutiny took place documented in Harper's Monthly June 1864. Trying to document my great-grandfather and great-grandmother aboard as crew and passenger. I could use help. Do cargo ships have listing of crew etc. What resources can I research?
Dear Ms. James,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
Since Hong Kong was a British port in 1858, we suggest you contact The National Archives of the United Kingdom, Kew, Richmond, Surrey, TW9 4DU, United Kingdom for passenger lists of ships arriving in the Hong Kong harbor.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
