Dear Ms. Picon,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located Field Notebooks, 1884 - 1906 and Field Notes of Surveys, 1882 - 1980 in the Records of the U.S. Geological Survey (Record Group 57) however the Catalog descriptions do not state that there are any records for Puerto Rico. We also located Geologists' Field Notebooks and Related Records, 1879 - 1939, and General Correspondence Files, 1890 - 1922 that contain field notes, however it is not clear that these records are relevant. For more information about these records, please email the reference units listed in the contacts field of the Catalog description.
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic and pursuant to guidance received from the Office of Management and Budget (OMB), NARA has adjusted its normal operations to balance the need of completing its mission-critical work while also adhering to the recommended social distancing for the safety of NARA staff. As a result of this re-prioritization of activities, you may experience a delay in receiving an initial acknowledgment as well as a substantive response to your reference request from these units. We apologize for this inconvenience and appreciate your understanding and patience.
You also may want to contact the USGS Library and the Archivo General y Biblioteca Nacional de Puerto Rico.
We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
Thank you for your response. I will write to the contacts in the Catalog descriptions, maybe something will turn up!
