Seeking information about bullets from assassination of John F. Kennedy

    Celine Estephan Newbie

How the bullets involved in the assassination of John F. Kennedy were analyzed? What are the procedures and results obtained?

          Dear Ms. Estephan,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

The Warren Commission Report has information on the rifle, bullets, and shell casings in Chapter 3 and Appendix 10. The House Select Committee on Assassinations (HSCA) also re-examined most of the evidence and their relevant records can be identified by searching the JFK database using HSCA and either bullet or ballistic as search terms. Researchers can order these by noting the Record Number for each document they wish to see from the Full View for that document (each should start with 180-) and requesting copies via our Contact Form. Links to records already in the catalog can be found on the JFK Collection Page in the Search the National Archives Catalog box. Also, new high resolution images of the bullet fragments are now available for download in our catalog.

Please note that the National Archives and Records Administration has suspended reproduction and digitization services until further notice due to COVID-19. Orders will not be serviced until operations can resume safely. We apologize for any inconvenience. Once operations resume, document reproduction requests will be filled in the order in which they were received.

We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
