Seeking name of rifleman who earned Silver Star Award

Looking for the name of a 41st Infantry Regiment rifleman who earned the Silver Star on March 1, 1945 near Grefrath Germany while volunteering to load the cannon in a disabled tank and successfully knocking out a German strong point.

          Dear Mr. Butenschoen,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

At that time, the 41st Armored Infantry Regiment was a part of the 2nd Armored Division. We searched the World War II Operations Reports, 1940-1948 in the Records of the Adjutant General's Office, 1917-1981 (Record Group 407) and located general orders of the 2nd Armored Division for 1945 [Box 12177] that includes several awards of the Silver Star to members of the 41st Armored Infantry Regiment for actions on March 1, 1945 or over the course of several days including March 1, 1945.  The general orders did not provide a narrative of individual actions, but simply cited them for “gallantry in action.” For access to and/or copies of these general orders, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.

We hope this information is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
