My gggrandmother, Elizabeth Heinline, died in the 'government hospital for the insane in Washington, DC' called St. Elizabeth's Hospital in 1900. She was 79 years old. i'd like to find out what records were kept on her and how long she spent there.
Dear Ms. Jenkins,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located two series titled Register of Female Patients, 1866 - 1933 and Case Files of Patients, 1855 - 1950 from the Records of St. Elizabeths Hospital (Records Group 18) that may contain your grandmother’s records. For access to these records, please contact the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1) via email at archives1reference@nara.gov.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
