Dear Ms. Hogg,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located 3 series Annual, Special, and Final Reports, 1933-1943; "Happy Days" Newspapers, 5/20/1933-10/26/1940; Monthly Reports of Enrollment, 7/1940-6/1942; and 1 file unit Florida: SP4 – Myakka River Valley State Park – Bee Ridge, Sarasota County in the Records of the Civilian Conservation Corps (Record Group 35) that may be of interest. We also located 1 series Records Relating to the Civilian Conservation Corps, 1933-1943 in the Records of the Adjutant General’s Office (Record Group 407) that contains information about African American enrollees. The records are not yet digitized and available in the Catalog. For access to and/or copies of these records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.
In addition, we located a series titled Photographs of African-American Enrollees, 1936-1940 in RG 407 that may contain photographs of interest. For access to and/or copies of these photographs, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Still Picture (RDSS) via email at stillpix@nara.gov.
You may wish to search the Florida State Archives website for state agency records that they have pertaining to the Myakka River State Park.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
