Dear Mr. Maurath,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
Military records in the custody of the National Archives do not include the record of assignment and operational activity of individual pieces of equipment including sabres. Under normal War Department records management procedures, such documentation would be destroyed after initial administrative use.
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located a series titled Ordnance Manuals, 1841-1861 in the Records of the Office of the Chief of Ordnance (Record Group 156). The records are not yet digitized and available in the Catalog. For access to and/or copies, please contact the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1) via email at archives1reference@nara.gov.
Also we located the series titled Reports Relating to Tests of Ordnance, Routine Work and Other Matters, 1/1863-12/1908 in Record Group 156. For access to and/or copies, please contact the National Archives at Boston (RE-BO) via email at boston.archives@nara.gov.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research!
