I have a husband and wife couple (my grandparents) I have a question on.   My grandpa had a land entry file, and my grandma actually had a homestead file . Are they the same things and how do I order both of them.

          Hi Julie,

The terms are often used interchangeably but refer to different things.  Is this paperwork for the same parcel of land, Township, Range, Section?  If so then most likely one is the file created when they were working to procure the land (Land Entry File), and the other document is when they patented the land or received final ownership (homestead file).  The majority of Homestead Patent Files can be found on the BLM website www.glorecords.blm.gov.  To get a copy of the Land Entry Case File you can submit a request through the National Archives Order Online system.  Best of luck.
