Dear Ms. Darling,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located Case Files of Pension and Bounty-Land Warrant Applications Based on Revolutionary War Service in the Records of the Veterans Administration (Record Group 15). Some records are digitized but not all. Other records that may have files pertaining to John Reed include the the Records of the Adjutant General's Office, 1762 -1917 (Record Group 94) and the Records of the Accounting Officers of the Department of Treasury (Record Group 217). For access to and/or copies, please contact the National Archives at Washington, DC - Textual Reference (RDT1) via email at archives1reference@nara.gov. Please ask RDT1 to conduct a search of these records for John Reed’s final pension payment voucher to his widow and other related matters.
On Ancestry, we located John Reed on the list of Revolutionary War pensioners; and his 1827 pension application card. There may be a fee for using Ancestry. Instead, you may view these records online at one NARA's facilities for free via a NARA PC. For the nearest NARA location, please consult our web page at https://www.archives.gov/locations/. Also, some of the images from Ancestry are available for free on Family Search at https://www.familysearch.org/en/.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
