    Lynn Leland Newbie

Can I get the list of injured soldiers during Vietnam war and shipped to Japan for treatment during the period of 1959 to 1967?

          Dear Ms. Leland,

Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!

Although NARA has official reports of the activities of U.S. Army hospitals during the Vietnam War, these records do not include information about individual patients.

Casualty lists for the Korean and Vietnam Wars are in the custody of the Electronic Records Division (RDE) and are available via AAD (Access to Archival Databases) on the National Archives website at: https://aad.archives.gov/aad/.  Click on "casualties" under the category section. A list of the databases relating to casualties will appear and select the database in which you are interested.

Official Military Personnel Files (OMPFs) and individual medical reports for those who served in the U.S. Army after 1957 and prior to October 16, 1992 are in the custody of NARA's National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis. In many cases where personnel records were destroyed in the 1973 fire, proof of service can be provided from other records such as morning reports, payrolls, and military orders, and a certificate of military service will be issued. Please complete a GSA Standard Form 180 and mail it to NARA's National Personnel Records Center, (Military Personnel Records), 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO  63138-1002. Certain information in the records is not available to the general public without the written consent of the veteran or his next of kin.

Casualties for specific units are sometimes recorded on unit morning reports.  Morning reports for Army units from November 1, 1912 to 1959 are in the custody of the National Archives at St. Louis (RL-SL). For access to these records, please contact RL-SL via email at stl.archives@nara.gov.  Morning reports for Army units dated 1960-1974 are in the custody of NARA's National Personnel Records Center in St. Louis.  To request information from these records, please complete a GSA Standard Form 180 and mail it to NARA's National Personnel Records Center, (Military Personnel Records), 1 Archives Drive, St. Louis, MO  63138-1002.

The National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) has custody of the Records of the United States Forces in Southeast Asia, 1950-1975 (Record Group 472) for U.S. Army units.  These records consist mostly of unit organizational histories, after action reports, unit daily staff journals, and general orders. The files are arranged by unit, and identification of the unit is necessary before a search can be conducted.  They do not include personnel or medical information. For more information about these records, contact RDT2 via email at archives2reference@nara.gov
