Orem Robinson Jr. Service number 33719163 was with the 501st PIR, 101st AB Div and was in fact awarded the bronze star. Also found information that he played baseball and signed a contract with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947, as a pitcher. Have you ever tried obtaining his service records through NPRC in St. Louis, MO.
Thanks,
Elliot Schneider

David Robinson Nov 4, 2019 9:01 AM (in response to Elliot Schneider)Thank you. where did you find the information regarding the Bronze star? He was in fact signed by Branch Rickey himself as a pitcher for the Brooklyn Dodger organization. I have applied for his records from NPRC and hope to have something in approximately 6 weeks. Thanks again for the info.

I'm still going through the orders. When you get is records on the discharge papers you will most likely see the General Orders number and when it was assigned. When you get that information it will be easier to narrow down and find even by month. Let me know in a few weeks.
Thanks,

1 person found this helpfulDear Mr. Robinson,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located 4 series & 31 file units of the 17th Airborne Division plus 8 series, 80 file units, and 1 item of the 101st Airborne Division. These include general orders and operational records for both units. Not all records are digitized and available in the Catalog. For access to and/or copies of the records, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov. We checked the Index to General Orders for the 17th & 101st Airborne Divisions but no Orem Robinson was listed.
We searched the Access to Archival Databases (AAD) and located a database titled Electronic Army Serial Number Merged File, ca. 1938-1946 that includes a file for your father, Orem E. Robinson.
Selective Service records for individuals who served after World War I and born before 1960 are in the custody of the National Archives at St. Louis (RL-SL), P.O. Box 38757, St. Louis, MO 63138-0757. There are two types of records: the ledgers and the cards. The ledgers are in the public domain and not restricted by privacy. The cards are considered personal information and written permission for release, a death certificate, and/or an indication the information is requested for genealogical purposes should accompany the request for copies of the cards. Please complete Form NA-13172 to request a search of these records.
You may wish to search Bronze Star Awards, 17th Airborne Scions, and the 101st Airborne Division Association for additional information.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your family research!
