1 person found this helpfulDear Ms. Price,
Thank you for posting your request on History Hub!
We searched the National Archives Catalog and located a series titled General Correspondence, 1917-1947 in the Record Group 159: Records of the Office of the Inspector General (Army) that includes one file unit of the 306th Bomb Group titled “220.26 Ake, Nelson E.” (Box 114) about his unwarranted reduction in rank. The investigation did not lead to court proceedings. For access to and/or copies of this file unit, please contact the National Archives at College Park - Textual Reference (RDT2) via email at archives2reference@nara.gov.
We also searched the Air Force History Index and located two files of the 306th Bomb Group on Reels B0217 (Frames 992 - 1092) and B0218 (Frames 1091-1306). Both include war diaries of the 306th for 1944 & 1945. For access and/or copies of these reels of microfilm, please contact RDT2.
In addition, there were studies written about the 306th that may be of interest at https://apps.dtic.mil/dtic/tr/fulltext/u2/a398845.pdf and https://www.libraries.psu.edu/findingaids/1538.htm.
We hope this is helpful. Best of luck with your research.
